Alberta opens applications for $100 affordability payment

Albertans can now apply for a $100 provincial affordability payment designed to help offset the cost of living. Premier Danielle Smith announced the measure in June as an alternative to reducing the gasoline tax at the pump. The payment is available to eligible adults whether they drive or not, and the province says the money is meant to give residents flexibility in how they use it. Nearly 3.4 million adults qualify for the rebate. Applications are open from July 1 to Sept. 30, and the government says payments should reach bank accounts within two weeks of an application being received.
