Customs and Border Protection officers seized a large cocaine shipment during an inspection at the Pharr Port of Entry in Texas on Monday. The drugs were concealed inside a commercial tractortrailer carrying cabbage.
CBP said a canine inspection and imaging scan led officers to the hidden load. A followup search found 477 packages containing 1,173 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of nearly $10.8 million.
The agency seized the narcotics and the truck as part of its ongoing efforts to stop smuggling at the U.S.Mexico border. A port director said the case highlights how CBP uses inspections and technology to detect contraband.
