Toronto Pearson gold theft charges dropped for two men in Brampton court Two accused were cleared as the $20M airport heist case heads to trial
Charges against two men tied to the 2023 Toronto Pearson Airport gold theft were withdrawn on consecutive days in Brampton court.
Amit Jalota, of Oakville, had his charge dropped on Tuesday, according to his lawyer. Leora Shemesh said Jalota had maintained his innocence throughout the case and said the allegations had caused significant personal and financial consequences.
The following day, the charge against Ali Raza was also withdrawn in court. His lawyer said Raza had also consistently denied the allegations. The two were among nine people charged in connection with the theft of about $20 million in gold bars from an Air Canada cargo facility at Toronto Pearson International Airport in April 2023. Court records show the remaining accused are scheduled to go to trial later this month.
