B.C. Illegal Campfire Fines Top $21,000 Over Weekend
BC campfire bans stay in effect as officers issue tickets and fines statewide Check local fire restrictions before you head out and avoid costly violations
B.C. conservation officers said weekend patrols found numerous illegal campfires across several regions, leading to 19 violation tickets and $21,850 in fines.
Officials said the violations came as campfire bans remain in place in the Cariboo Fire Centre, parts of the Coastal Fire Centre, the Kamloops Fire Centre, and the Southeast Fire Centre.
The BC Wildfire Service said there are currently 136 active wildfires burning in the province and reminded campers and outdoor visitors to check local fire restrictions before lighting any fire.
