Kalshi seeks approval for margin trading on prediction markets
Kalshi margin trading could expand event contracts for qualified U.S. users See how borrowed-funds access may boost liquidity and institutional demand
Kalshi has asked U.S. regulators for permission to let some users trade event contracts with borrowed funds on its platform. The request was filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission through the company’s clearing unit, Kalshi Klear.
The company said leverage would not be offered on sports, culture, or “mention” markets. If approved, the feature would be limited to certain selfclearing members that meet capital requirements.
Kalshi said margin could make longerdated prediction markets more appealing to institutional traders, who already use leverage in stocks and futures. The move comes as other prediction market firms also explore ways to bring margin trading to regulated U.S. event contracts.
