600 BTC from 2010 moves after 16 years of dormancy
Bitcoin mining rewards moved after 16 years of dormancy, now worth $48M See why the 600 BTC transfer from 2010 is drawing attention across crypto markets
A set of 12 Bitcoin mining rewards totaling 600 BTC moved on Saturday after more than 16 years without activity, according to onchain data reviewed by Cointelegraph.
The coins were mined in March 2010 and are now worth about $48 million. The transfers drew attention because they came from addresses active during Bitcoin’s early days, when Satoshi Nakamoto was still involved in the project.
Whale Alert said its review found no evidence linking the blocks to Nakamoto. The company said the movement of one reward several blocks earlier than the others looked like a test transaction before the remaining transfers.
The event highlights how early Bitcoin holdings can reappear after long periods of inactivity, even when there is no confirmed connection to Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator.
