Campfire bans expand in two more B.C. fire centres
Campfire bans in B.C. target Cariboo and Southeast fire zones as heat builds Check what’s allowed before you head out and avoid fines or fire risk
Campfire bans will take effect in the Cariboo Fire Centre at noon PT on Wednesday and in the Southeast Fire Centre at noon PT on Thursday, as British Columbia faces more wildfires and continued hot weather.
The restrictions cover areas outside municipal boundaries, including many provincial parks, campgrounds, recreation sites, natural resource districts and Crown land. They apply to Category 1 campfires as well as sky lanterns, woodfired hot tubs, pizza ovens and similar devices unless they are built into a structure with a flue.
Outdoor stoves and approved charcoal, liquid or gasfuel devices are still allowed if they meet the province’s size and safety rules. The move comes as heat warnings remain in place across much of southern B.C., with temperatures above 30 C in some coastal areas and the mid30s in the Fraser Valley and southern Interior.
