Canadiens sign goaltender Jakub Dobes to three-year extension

The Montreal Canadiens have signed goaltender Jakub Dobes to a threeyear contract extension that runs through the 202930 season. The deal carries an average annual value of US$5.36 million. Dobes said he is pleased to secure his future in Montreal and wants to stay focused on hockey as the team continues building around a young core. He noted that winning a championship with the Canadiens remains his priority. The 25yearold Czech netminder began the season as Sam Montembeault’s backup before taking over as Montreal’s starter. In 43 regularseason games, he posted a 29104 record with a 2.78 goalsagainst average and a .901 save percentage, then started all 19 playoff games as the Canadiens reached the Eastern Conference final. He also led NHL rookie goaltenders in wins and was named to the league’s AllRookie Team.
