New York offers discounts to win back Canadian tourists

New York City is launching a new tourism campaign aimed at Canadian travellers as visits from Canada remain below prepandemic levels. The promotion, called the Northern Neighbour Deal, will give Canadians 30% discounts at more than 85 hotels, attractions, restaurants, and entertainment businesses across the city. The effort comes as some Canadians continue to avoid travel to the United States amid trade tensions and frustration with the Trump administration. New York City Tourism + Conventions says Canada is still the city’s secondlargest international market, but visitor numbers have fallen in recent years. Tourism officials said the city welcomed nearly one million Canadian visitors a year before the pandemic, compared with about 800,000 in 2025. The discount program runs from Aug. 18 to Sept. 7, with reservations opening Aug. 4.
