SickKids doctor charged in child sexual abuse material case
Toronto doctor charged in child exploitation probe after SickKids searches See what police say was seized, and how the hospital is responding
A doctor at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children has been arrested and charged with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material, according to police.
Toronto police said the suspect, Dilan Dissanayake, 44, was charged on Tuesday after an investigation by the internet child exploitation unit. Police said search warrants were executed in February at the hospital and a private home, and several electronic devices, including a work computer, were seized.
Police said investigators have not found evidence that the material is connected to his work as a physician. SickKids said it was deeply upset by the allegations, placed Dissanayake on immediate leave, and told families they could contact patient relations with any concerns.
