Evacuation order issued near Big Bar Lake as wildfire escalates

An evacuation order has been issued for parts of the southern Cariboo region in British Columbia because of a fastmoving wildfire near Big Bar Lake.
The Thompson Nicola Regional District said the Fiftynine Creek wildfire is growing quickly, prompting officials to upgrade an earlier evacuation alert to an order. The affected area includes about 107 properties in Electoral Area E, also known as Bonaparte Plateau.
Residents in the area around Big Bar Lake, including Big Bar Lake Park and nearby properties southeast of the lake, are being told to leave immediately. Officials also said Big Bar Road could be affected because of the fire’s spread.
