Quebec opens investigation into Longueuil police response after teen shooting

Quebec’s public security ministry has launched an administrative investigation into how Longueuil police responded after a teen was fatally shot in September 2025 on Montreal’s South Shore. The review follows criticism from the province’s independent police watchdog, which said officers waited 96 minutes before notifying investigators of the death of 15yearold Nooran Rezayi. During that time, police interviewed witnesses and tried to collect video evidence, actions the watchdog said were inappropriate because the shooting involved one of their own officers. Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière said lawyer Michel Bouchard will examine the force’s conduct and has six months to submit a report. The case is also moving through the courts: Rezayi’s family has filed a lawsuit against the City of Longueuil and its police force, and Quebec prosecutors are still deciding whether criminal charges are warranted.
