A federal appeals court has denied the Kennedy Center board’s request for an emergency stay that would have delayed the removal of Donald Trump’s name from the building and official materials.
The dispute centers on a district court ruling that said only Congress has the authority to name the Kennedy Center, not the board. Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the center to remove Trump’s name from signage, digital materials and branding within 14 days.
On Friday, scaffolding was visible around parts of the Kennedy Center signage while Trump’s name still remained on the facade ahead of the courtimposed deadline. The appeals court did not rule yet on the board’s broader request for a stay pending appeal, and set a briefing schedule for later in June.
