Regina hailstorm damage nears $80 million, with more than 10,000 claims filed
Regina hailstorm claims surge as SGI nears $80M in damage estimates See how SGI is handling auto and property claims with added support
Saskatchewan Government Insurance says the June 9 hailstorm in Regina has already generated more than 10,000 auto claims and about 800 property claims, with preliminary damage estimates approaching $80 million.
The insurer says the storm caused widespread damage to vehicles, homes and trees across parts of the city. To keep up with the workload, SGI has added staff, extended hours and scheduled weekend appraisal events for customers.
Officials say many of the claims involve haildamaged windshields, roofing and exterior materials. SGI says it is working through the backlog while insurers across Western Canada continue to face a growing number of severe weatherrelated claims.
