OpenAI Introduces the Agents API
OpenAI Agents API helps developers build cloud-based agents with managed Codex Run long workflows with sandboxes, tools, and less custom orchestration today
OpenAI has announced the Agents API, now in public beta, to help developers build and run cloudbased agents using the company’s managed Codex harness.
The API is designed to support longrunning agent workflows by handling context management, tool use, subagent coordination, and sandboxed execution. Developers can create an agent with a single API call and choose from OpenAIhosted sandboxes or partner environments, including options for selfhosted infrastructure.
OpenAI says the new offering is meant to reduce the amount of custom orchestration developers need to build, while improving reliability for tasks such as research, analysis, and coding. The company also said the API is available to all developers, with users paying for tokens and tools used.
