Ontario resort becomes FIFA World Cup training site
Panama World Cup base camp set at Alliston's Nottawasaga Resort near Toronto Fans can watch a June 11 training session at this FIFA-ready soccer site
A resort in Alliston, Ont., about 90 minutes north of Toronto, will serve as Team Panama’s base camp for the FIFA World Cup. The Nottawasaga Resort and Conference Centre was chosen after years of planning and field upgrades designed to meet FIFA standards.
The property has a long soccer history and has hosted national teams before, including Germany during the 1994 World Cup in North America. Resort vicepresident Dino Biffis said the family is proud to see the site play a role in Canada’s first men’s World Cup.
To prepare, the resort rebuilt its pitch with new drainage, irrigation and approved grass. Local residents will also be able to attend a community training session on June 11, giving fans a chance to watch Panama train before the tournament begins.
