Ford holds No. 3 U.S. sales spot in third quarter

Ford U.S. sales hold No. 3 as F-Series gains offset softer EV demand See how Ford edged Hyundai in Q3 and kept a strong year-to-date lead

Ford kept the No. 3 position in U.S. lightduty vehicle sales in the third quarter, edging Hyundai Motor by a narrow margin, according to companyreported data released Friday in Detroit. Ford said thirdquarter sales fell 6.6% year over year to 507,395 vehicles, while Hyundai, Kia and Genesis combined rose 5.4% to 506,200 vehicles. Analysts had recently expected Hyundai to overtake Ford, but both automakers finished the quarter close to forecast. Ford still has a yeartodate lead of about 89,700 vehicles over Hyundai through the end of the third quarter. The company said improving FSeries pickup sales helped offset earlier production disruptions, though Ford’s EV sales remained sharply lower compared with last year, when demand was boosted by expiring federal incentives.
