LNG Canada and Coastal GasLink Sign Agreement to Advance Pipeline Projects
Coastal GasLink Phase 2 advances with new agreements boosting LNG Canada's expansion. Discover how these projects strengthen Canada's LNG market role and global energy impact.
The companies behind the Coastal GasLink pipeline and LNG Canada's Kitimat facility in British Columbia have signed agreements to move forward with the second phases of their projects.
TC Energy announced this agreement establishes a comprehensive commercial framework, marking a key milestone in advancing Coastal GasLink Phase 2. This deal also supports LNG Canada's progress toward a final decision on its expansion.
The LNG Canada expansion is recognized as a major national project by Prime Minister Mark Carney and is eligible for fasttracking. François Poirier, president and CEO of TC Energy, stated that increasing pipeline capacity will enhance Canada's role as a reliable LNG supplier to global markets.
The Coastal GasLink pipeline transports gas from northeastern B.C. to the LNG Canada facility on the coast, which then exports it. British Columbia Energy Minister Adrian Dix called the agreement a necessary step toward realizing LNG Canada's second phase. He emphasized the tangible progress of this project compared to other pipeline proposals that lack firm backing and plans.
This development signals growing momentum in Canada's LNG sector, positioning the country as a significant player in the global liquefied natural gas market.
