Snap unveils $2,195 Specs AR glasses
Snap Specs AR glasses target consumers with see-through lenses and digital views See pricing, launch timing, and how Snap plans to challenge Meta and Google
Snap has introduced Specs, its first augmented reality glasses aimed at mainstream consumers rather than developers. The company priced the device at $2,195, plus a refundable $200 deposit, and said it plans to begin shipping later this year in the U.S., U.K. and France.
CEO Evan Spiegel said the product reflects his belief that consumers are ready to rethink how they use computers nearly two decades after the iPhone launched. He described the glasses as a way to bring digital information into shared realworld experiences through seethrough lenses instead of phone screens.
The launch comes as Snap competes with bettercapitalized rivals such as Meta and Google in the emerging smartglasses market. Snap shares fell about 4% after the announcement, and analysts noted that the premium price could be a challenge as consumers face pressure from inflation.
