Heat warnings expand across southern British Columbia
BC heat warnings spread as temperatures soar across the coast and Interior See where records may fall and how long the extreme heat is expected to last
Heat warnings have expanded across much of southern and coastal inland British Columbia as temperatures rise this week, according to Environment Canada.
Coastal areas are expected to climb above 30 C, while the southern Interior and Fraser Valley could see temperatures in the mid30s. The warnings are expected to remain in place until Wednesday in some areas and until Thursday in parts of the Interior.
The hot weather has already set or matched several daily records, including in Kitimat, Dease Lake, Sechelt and Squamish. Lytton recorded the highest temperature in Canada on Monday at 36.3 C. BC Hydro also said electricity demand could reach record summer levels as more residents use air conditioning.
