Toronto-area gas prices are set to rise overnight
GTA gas prices: drivers may pay 8 cents more Friday as fuel costs rise See why overnight changes could hit commuters and how the weekend may ease prices
Drivers in the Greater Toronto Area are expected to pay more at the pump on Friday, with forecasted gasoline prices rising by 8 cents to $1.89 per litre overnight, according to Canadians for Affordable Energy.
The group said prices could ease slightly over the weekend, but they have been volatile in recent months because of global oil market disruptions linked to the war involving the U.S., Israel and Iran and the impact on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Local drivers said the increase would affect workers who rely on their vehicles, including construction and delivery drivers, while some called for more government help to offset fuel costs. The federal fuel excise tax pause currently saves about 10 cents per litre, but the expected increase would largely cancel out that relief.
