Police watchdog called in after Abbotsford shooting and chase

Abbotsford police say British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office has been notified after a Sunday night incident that involved a shooting, a brief vehicle pursuit and a man found dead in Langley. Police said officers went to the PetroPass Truck Stop on Matsqui Place around 11:30 p.m. on July 26 during a property crime investigation. They found two men involved in suspected criminal activity, and when the men tried to leave in a Dodge Ram pickup, an officer fired a weapon. Police began a chase westbound on Highway 1, but called it off soon after because of the way the suspect was driving. Hours later, a resident in the 27200 block of 30 Avenue in Langley found a truck in a driveway with a man inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators later confirmed he and the truck were linked to the earlier Abbotsford incident. Police say one suspect remains outstanding, and anyone with information is being asked to contact Abbotsford police.
