The U.S. Department of Justice has charged three Russian nationals in connection with an alleged cybercrime operation that prosecutors say targeted Americans in 21 states and caused more than $63 million in losses.
According to federal authorities, Alexander Volosovik, Kirill Zatolokin and Yulia Pankova operated St. Petersburgbased companies that provided hosting and internet infrastructure used for ransomware, phishing and other attacks. Prosecutors said the firms helped criminal clients hide from law enforcement and support malware campaigns, fraudulent domain registrations and bruteforce attacks.
The case was outlined in a December 2024 indictment that was unsealed on Tuesday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio. Officials said victims included banks, schools, government entities, hospitals and media companies, and that the investigation involved cooperation with partners in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Australia.
