Anthropic introduces Claude Sonnet 5

Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 5, its latest Sonnetclass AI model, positioning it as the company’s most agentic version yet. The model is designed to plan tasks, use tools such as browsers and terminals, and work autonomously on coding and other knowledge work. According to Anthropic, Sonnet 5 performs closer to Opus 4.8 than previous Sonnet releases, while being available at a lower price point. The company says it improves on Sonnet 4.6 in reasoning, tool use, coding, and agentic workflows, and that safety testing showed fewer undesirable behaviors overall. Sonnet 5 is available across Claude plans starting today, with Free and Pro users getting it as the default model. It is also available through Claude Code and the Claude Platform, where Anthropic is offering introductory pricing through August 31, 2026 before standard rates take effect.
