Trump says Ukraine peace deal could restore U.S.-Russia ties

Trump Putin call details: trade could improve after a Ukraine ceasefire See how stalled peace talks, new strikes, and U.S. diplomacy may shift next

Donald Trump told Vladimir Putin that a quick end to the war in Ukraine could help restore trade and economic relations between the United States and Russia, according to a Kremlin readout of their call. The Kremlin said the two leaders discussed recent visits by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, as diplomatic efforts to revive peace talks remain stalled. Russia has also stepped up air strikes on Ukrainian cities, while Kyiv says it is short of airdefense missiles. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the call lasted one hour and that Trump urged an end to the war as soon as possible. The White House did not immediately comment.
