Metal band performs at Ottawa hospital to fulfill patient's wish

Ottawa hospital concert brings heavy metal to Bruyère Health for patient wish See how staff turned a board room into a rock venue for one moving moment

A heavy metal concert at Ottawa's Bruyère Health helped one longtime patient, 27yearold Tim Berry, experience a wish he thought he might not get to see. The performance took place on July 21 after staff learned he wanted to attend a metal show but was too fragile to leave the hospital. Clinical chaplain Roshene Lawson helped organize the event by contacting the owner of the Dominion Tavern, who then recruited local band The Scepter. The band agreed quickly and turned a hospital board room into a small rock venue with lights, guitars and loud music for Berry and other patients. Berry was moved by the show and later met the band, receiving merchandise including a Tshirt and CD. Staff said the event reflected a broader effort to support patients' quality of life and spiritual wellbeing, not just their medical care.
