A quarterly survey from Destination B.C. found that transportation and gas costs were a major concern for residents considering overnight trips this summer.
The agency said financial pressures were the main barrier to travel within the province, and concern about gas and transportation costs rose sharply between the January and April surveys as fuel prices climbed.
Industry observers said many British Columbians are still interested in travelling, but are adjusting plans by staying closer to home, traveling on weekdays, or choosing destinations that fit tighter budgets. The survey also showed limited interest in overnight trips to the United States, with more residents choosing domestic travel instead.
