Durham regional police say 46 people have been arrested and more than 1,440 charges have been laid after a yearslong investigation into organized crime groups operating across the Greater Toronto Area.
Police said the probe, known as Project Jetsetter, has connected more than 200 incidents since 2019 and has identified losses of more than $2.6 million in Durham Region alone. Investigators say the crimes included retail theft, vehicle fraud, staged collisions for insurance claims, jewelry distraction thefts and the theft and export of vehicles and other goods.
Authorities said the operation was aimed at people traveling to Canada to carry out repeat, profitdriven crimes. Police added that 164 suspects remain wanted and that the investigation is continuing.
