Scarborough fire investigation after suspicious plaza blaze spreads from vehicle Police probe the early morning fire as crews monitor damage and evacuations
Toronto authorities are investigating an early morning fire at a commercial plaza in Scarborough as suspicious after flames spread from a vehicle to a business near Eglinton Avenue East and Kennedy Road.
Toronto police said they were first called around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday for a reported breakandenter in progress. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle burning outside the plaza and the fire had already reached a spa inside the building.
Toronto Fire Services said residential apartments on the second floor were evacuated before crews brought the twoalarm fire under control. Ten people have been displaced, and a firefighter plus one other person at the scene were treated for minor injuries.
Police said there is no suspect information at this time and it is not yet clear whether a specific business was targeted. Crews remained on site Wednesday to ventilate the building and monitor it for the next 12 to 24 hours.
