Carney’s Canada Day speech in Edmonton cancelled after Ottawa thunderstorms

Carney had been set to speak at an Edmonton Canada Day event on Wednesday evening, but weather in Ottawa delayed his departure and prevented his plane from leaving on time. His spokesperson said he would not arrive in Edmonton in time. The storms also forced the cancellation of Ottawa’s evening Canada Day events, including fireworks. Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning as heavy rain, strong winds, lightning and the possibility of hail affected the capital region.
