Boy recounts 1994 park attack at trial in Brampton

Brampton court hears 1994 police audio in Neil trial over historical attacks DNA genealogy and witness evidence could shape the case as jurors weigh the charges

A court in Brampton heard audio from a 1994 police interview with a man who was 10 years old when he says he was attacked in a park in Brampton, Ontario. The recording was played Monday during the trial of Richard Neil, who has pleaded not guilty to 17 historical charges tied to alleged attacks on three children. Prosecutors say advances in DNA testing, including investigative genetic genealogy, linked the three cases to Neil after decades without an arrest. Neil, now 67, was arrested in 2024 and the Crown says the incidents occurred in parks in southern Ontario between 1992 and 1995. The jury also heard from David Kilpatrick, who said he saw the boy run shirtless from Norton Place Park and called 911. The Crown described evidence from the three scenes, including DNA and other items, as central to its case.
