Trump urges Senate action on daylight saving time bill
Daylight saving time could become permanent under the Sunshine Protection Act. See why Trump is pushing the Senate to vote and what it means for voters.
President Donald Trump used a Truth Social post to press Sen. Tom Cotton, RArk., to allow a vote on the Sunshine Protection Act, legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent. Trump criticized Cotton for blocking the measure and urged Arkansas voters to contact him.
The post came while the Senate is out of session until Nov. 3, delaying any action on the bill. The House passed its version in July with bipartisan support, but the Senate committee has not advanced it.
Trump has argued that ending the twiceyearly clock change would bring safety and health benefits, while Cotton said he supports keeping standard concerns in mind and opposes permanent daylight saving time because of dark winter mornings for children.
