Starbucks to close about 250 North American cafes

Starbucks closures hit 250 North America cafes as turnaround plan deepens See what's driving the cuts, reduced expansion, and $300M in charges

Starbucks said it will close about 250 cafes in North America as part of its ongoing turnaround plan. The company said the locations were underperforming and could not consistently deliver the customer experience it wants. The closures represent about 1% of Starbucks' North American store base and come during CEO Brian Niccol's efforts to refresh the business. The move is the second round of closures in the region during his tenure. For fiscal 2026, Starbucks now expects 440 net new store openings, down from its earlier forecast of 600 to 650. The company said most of the closures should happen before the end of fiscal 2026 and expects roughly $300 million in restructuring charges linked to the changes.
