The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Ivan Demidov to an eightyear, US$73.2 million contract extension that will begin in the 202728 season.
Demidov, 20, led NHL rookies with 62 points last season and finished second in Calder Trophy voting. He also contributed nine points in 19 playoff games as Montreal reached the Eastern Conference final.
The deal keeps the Russian winger under contract through the 203435 season and adds him to a young core that includes Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky and Lane Hutson. The agreement was reached before a league rule change that shortens the maximum resigning length to seven years later this year.
