Eric Duhaime wins Bellechasse, marking his first seat in Quebec’s National Assembly See how the Conservative breakthrough could reshape Quebec politics and policy

Eric Duhaime has won the Bellechasse riding, becoming a member of Quebec's National Assembly for the first time after several previous attempts. CBC News projected the Conservative Party of Quebec leader's victory on Monday night, as the party appeared set for a historic result. It was the first time in nearly 91 years that Conservative candidates won seats in the National Assembly, and the party was projected to take 19 seats overall. Duhaime said his win marked a turning point for the party and for Quebec. He had run in several previous elections, including in 2003, 2022 and a 2025 byelection, before finally winning in Bellechasse, a riding in the ChaudièreAppalaches region. During the campaign, Duhaime focused on the cost of living, tax cuts and opposition to a referendum. He said he plans to work with other parties but will not compromise on the referendum issue.
