Quebec party leaders prepare for final election debate

Quebec election debate puts party leaders on stage for a key campaign showdown Economy, taxes and public services take center stage as voters weigh the final push

Quebec’s party leaders are set to face off in the third and final debate of the provincial election campaign on Wednesday evening. The debate, hosted by RadioCanada at 8 p.m., will include leaders from all five major parties. The discussion is expected to focus on Quebec’s future, the economy, tax cuts and public services, childcare, and health care. In the final stretch of the campaign, leaders have also been pressed on whether any could work together in a minority legislature. Parti Québécois Leader Paul StPierre Plamondon said Monday that an alliance is not under consideration, after rivals suggested his platform shares similarities with that of Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime. Quebec voters head to the polls on Oct. 5, and poll aggregator Qc125 continues to show the Parti Québécois ahead, with a minority outcome still appearing likely.
