Wildfire near Clinton, B.C. expected to intensify as dry, windy weather returns

Evacuation orders have expanded in British Columbia’s Interior as a wildfire near Clinton continues to threaten nearby properties. Residents of 70 Mile House were told to leave on Monday morning, and additional properties in the area were later added to the evacuation order.
The Pear Lake wildfire, which merged with the Fiftynine Creek fire over the weekend, had grown to about 633 square kilometres by Monday afternoon. The B.C. Wildfire Service said hot, dry weather and stronger winds are expected to increase fire activity this week.
Other major fires are also burning across the province, including the Brunswick wildfire complex near Boston Bar and the Tower Creek fire in the southeast. Provincial officials say more than 130 fires are active in B.C., with extra crews arriving from the Yukon, Alberta and Mexico to help local responders.
