Heat and humidity return to Ontario as Manitoba sets temperature records

Hot, humid weather has returned to Ontario and parts of the Prairies, with Environment Canada issuing heat warnings across much of Ontario, southern Manitoba and parts of Saskatchewan. In southern and eastern Ontario, temperatures are expected to reach about 37 C on Tuesday, with humidex values in the mid40s. Overnight temperatures are also expected to stay above 20 C, offering limited relief. The heat is also affecting Manitoba, where several communities set new daily high temperature records on Sunday. Environment Canada said temperatures reached 35.8 C in Gretna, 34.7 C in Carberry, 32.9 C in Grand Rapids and 35.7 C in Portage la Prairie. In Winnipeg, the humidex made it feel like 48 on Sunday, according to Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell. Health officials are urging people attending outdoor events, including FIFA World Cuprelated gatherings in Toronto, to take precautions such as staying hydrated, using shade and wearing lightweight clothing. The city has also expanded cooling centres for people who need a place to escape the heat.
