B.C.-designed dive suit set for Pentagon showcase
Atmospheric dive suit by Nuytco lets divers work deep with more mobility See the Pentagon showcase and how this North Vancouver tech aids rescue
A North Vancouver company is drawing attention for an atmospheric dive suit that has been developed over more than four decades and is now set to be showcased at the Pentagon later this week.
Nuytco Research Ltd., founded by Phil Nuytten in the early 1980s, makes suits that let divers work at extreme depths with more mobility than traditional gear. Company president Jeff Heaton said most of its current work is for military submarine rescue, though the technology is also used in salvage, research and other specialized jobs.
The article says the DSEND, or Deep Sea Expeditionary NoDecompression system suit, is used by the U.S. Navy and is designed to give divers greater freedom of movement underwater. Nuytco also tests its equipment on site in North Vancouver and has supplied technology used in film productions, including The Abyss and Black Panther.
