Ethan Katzberg wins hammer throw in Budapest with world-leading mark

Canadian hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg won the men’s event at the Gyulai István Memorial in Budapest on Tuesday with a seasonbest and meetrecord throw of 83.64 metres. The 24yearold from Nanaimo, B.C., beat Germany’s Merlin Hummel, who finished second with 81.74 metres. Hungary’s Bence Halász placed third with 81.65 metres. Katzberg, the reigning Olympic and world champion, said Budapest has been an important place in his career. He also won the event in 2024 and first captured a world title in the city in 2023. The result gives him four wins in four competitions this season as he prepares for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this month.
