Quebec party leaders make final campaign pitches ahead of election

Quebec election update: leaders court undecided voters ahead of Monday's vote PQ faces referendum backlash as rivals warn of economic risk and instability

MONTREAL — Leaders of Quebec’s five main political parties spent the final weekend of the election campaign trying to win over undecided voters before Monday’s vote. The Parti Québécois, which has led opinion polls during the campaign, remained the main target of rivals on Friday. Opponents argued that its promise of a referendum in 2029 could create instability and hurt the province’s economy. PQ Leader Paul StPierre Plamondon dismissed those attacks as a late effort to shift votes and called on Quebecers to back him with a majority government. The PQ, the Liberals, the Conservatives, Quebec solidaire and the Coalition Avenir Québec are all expected to win seats, while about a quarter of eligible voters had already cast ballots in advance polling.
