Quebec election campaign focuses on spending, housing and education
Quebec election campaign: see how parties differ on spending, housing, education Get the key policy contrasts and what each plan could mean for voters
On the seventh day of Quebec’s election campaign, the main parties outlined different plans on government spending, housing, education and infrastructure.
The Coalition Avenir Québec and the Quebec Conservative Party both called for a smaller provincial government, but they disagreed on how deep the cuts should be. Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime said the public service is too large, while CAQ Leader Christine Fréchette warned that major reductions could affect public services.
Québec solidaire cospokesperson Ruba Ghazal centered her message on housing affordability, saying younger Quebecers are finding home ownership increasingly out of reach. Parti Québécois Leader Paul StPierre Plamondon focused on education reform, including measures meant to improve graduation rates and open private schools to more students from lowerincome families. Liberal Leader Charles Milliard promoted a plan to repair aging schools and other public infrastructure.
