Kawhi Leonard returns to the Raptors after NBA approval of the delayed trade Toronto lands a proven champion as the Clippers deal clears and fans look ahead
Kawhi Leonard is officially back with the Toronto Raptors after the NBA approved a delayed trade with the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. The deal returns the forward to Toronto, where he helped the team win the 2019 championship.
In the trade, Toronto sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, an unprotected firstround pick in 2031, an unprotected firstround pick in 2033, a 2027 pick swap, and two secondround picks to Los Angeles. Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said the team values Leonard’s experience, competitiveness, and leadership.
The move had been on hold while the league investigated possible salarycap violations involving Leonard and the Clippers. The NBA fined Leonard and imposed major penalties on the Clippers, but allowed the trade and contract to stand. Leonard is expected to speak at Toronto’s media day on Sept. 28.
