Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman has moved ahead of Republican Spencer Pratt in the latest Associated Press count for the city’s nonpartisan mayoral race, though the race has not been officially called.
Raman now leads Pratt by more than 3,000 votes, or about 0.4 percentage points, after Pratt had briefly been in front earlier in the day. Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass has already secured a place in the runoff and is waiting to learn who will join her.
Ballot counting in Los Angeles continues after Election Day because California allows mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day to arrive later and requires verification steps before final results are certified. County officials must finish the official count by July 2, with state certification due by July 10.
