Quebec police chase ends in a deadly river crash in Coteau-du-Lac near Montreal Watch how the SQ pursuit unfolded as investigators probe the fatal incident
Quebec’s police watchdog is investigating a Sûreté du Québec chase that ended in CoteauduLac, west of Montreal, with a vehicle submerged in a river and two passengers dead.
According to the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, an SQ patrol tried to stop a vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday because the owner was allegedly violating conditions. Two minutes later, the driver lost control at the intersection of De la RivièreDeslisle North and South roads and went into the water.
The two passengers were pulled from the river with serious injuries and later died in hospital. Seven investigators and a Montreal police crash reconstruction technician are assisting with the case as authorities work to notify next of kin.
