OpenAI forms advisory group on mathematics and artificial intelligence
OpenAI math AI advisory group guides reviews of breakthrough results and sharing See how independent experts will shape disclosure, standards, and research use
OpenAI said it has created an independent advisory group on mathematics and artificial intelligence to help guide how new mathrelated AI capabilities are reviewed, communicated, and used.
The company said the move follows rapid progress from a new internal model that has solved more than 100 longstanding open problems in mathematics, including the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize problem. OpenAI said the speed of the model’s progress has prompted internal discussion about how to share results responsibly with the research community.
According to the company, the group will advise on the significance of emerging results, help coordinate their dissemination, and weigh in on academic and professional standards. It will also provide feedback on how AI tools can support mathematical research and learning. OpenAI said the group will operate independently and include mathematicians from institutions such as the Institute for Advanced Study, Cambridge, Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard, and Oxford.
