Blue Jays' Dylan Cease falls just short of no-hitter
Dylan Cease nearly threw a no-hitter as Blue Jays blank Giants 10-0 See Toronto's lone no-hitter, Cease's near-miss, and other close calls
Toronto Blue Jays starter Dylan Cease came within three outs of a nohitter on Wednesday before a ninthinning single by Heliot Ramos ended the bid in a 100 win over the San Francisco Giants.
Cease struck out 11 batters and walked three over eight scoreless innings. Manager John Schneider then went to the bullpen to finish the game.
The article also looks back at Toronto’s only nohitter, thrown by Dave Stieb on Sept. 2, 1990, and notes other nearmisses by Blue Jays pitchers including Bowden Francis, Brandon Morrow, Dustin McGowan, Roy Halladay, Jim Clancy and David Cone.
Cease had previously thrown a nohitter for the San Diego Padres in 2024. The piece says only 35 major leaguers have thrown multiple nohitters in complete games, with Nolan Ryan leading that group.
