An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been dismissed after a disciplinary panel found he gave improper help to towtruck companies in the Toronto area.
Roberto Visconti was convicted in 2024 of breach of trust after an internal OPP investigation found that, between 2018 and 2021, he steered nearly all towing referrals from his traffic stops to two operators. Court records say those companies paid him about $925,000 in return.
A police adjudicator said the conduct was a serious abuse of his role and that termination was the appropriate penalty. Visconti did not attend the hearing, and the panel said there was limited evidence that he could be rehabilitated.
