EU issuers argue Europe still needs dollar stablecoins
Dollar stablecoins in Europe still meet cross-border trade and treasury needs See why issuers say demand stays strong as MiCA rules evolve
European stablecoin issuers are arguing that demand for US dollar tokens remains strong, even as the EU works to strengthen the euro in digital payments. They say businesses involved in crossborder trade still need dollar liquidity for settlement and treasury operations.
AllUnity, a German issuer, recently expanded beyond eurobased products with a US dollarpegged stablecoin. Its chief executive said a euroonly approach would not meet the needs of European companies that settle payments globally.
Other issuers made similar points, saying the demand for dollar stablecoins is driven by practical payment needs rather than speculation. Societe GeneraleFORGE said the market should support both euro and dollar digital cash under a clear regulatory framework.
The article notes that Europeissued dollar stablecoins remain small compared with USDT and USDC, but issuers see room for growth as regulators review the MiCA framework.
