GOP lawmakers urge Supreme Court to reject Boulder County climate lawsuit
Supreme Court climate lawsuit spotlight: GOP backs ExxonMobil and Suncor See why lawmakers say Boulder County's case could reshape energy policy
More than 70 House Republicans are asking the Supreme Court to side with ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy in a climate lawsuit brought by Boulder County, Colorado.
Led by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, the lawmakers argue the case is an overreach that could push energy companies into large liability claims and interfere with national energy policy. They say lawsuits over global climate damages belong in federal court, not in statelevel litigation.
Rep. Gabe Evans, a Colorado Republican, said the suit threatens jobs, energy production, and household energy costs. The court is expected to hear arguments this fall, with a ruling likely in 2027.
